Chapter 1

1. Human dignity and respect for human rights

Nursing care profession is a specialist profession that provides support to the people who have difficulties in daily living due to age and/or disability to enable them to continue their usual lifestyle.

Basically, ang role ng care worker is to help people who have difficulty in daily life because of old age or disability.

But caregiving is not just about helping with tasks like eating, bathing, or moving.

The real goal is to support the person so they can continue living their usual life as much as possible.

Hindi ibig sabihin na papalitan mo lahat ng ginagawa nila.

Ang goal is tulungan sila para magawa pa rin nila ang kaya nilang gawin.

Caregiving = support the person’s life, not replace it.

Human dignity is the basic concept in the provision of the support.

One of the most important concepts in caregiving is human dignity.

This means every person has value and deserves respect, no matter their condition.

Even if someone is already:

  • elderly
  • sick
  • has disability
  • dependent on care

they still deserve to be treated with respect.

Kahit kailangan na nila ng tulong, hindi nawawala ang dignity nila.

⭐ Human dignity = every person deserves respect.

• Human dignity means that each person is respected as an individual.

Every user is different.

May sariling personality, habits, and lifestyle.

Some are talkative, some are quiet.
Some like routines, some are more flexible.

As a caregiver, importante na irespeto mo kung sino sila bilang tao.

Hindi sila dapat tratuhin na parang pare-pareho lang.

⭐ Respect the individuality of every user.

• A person is respected and his/her human rights are protected even when he/she is in need of nursing care.

Even if someone already needs caregiving, they still have human rights.

This means we should always treat them with respect and proper care.

Examples:

✓ respect their privacy
✓ ask permission before helping
✓ explain what you’re doing
✓ speak politely

Simple things, pero ito yung nagpapakita ng tunay na respeto.

Needing care does not remove a person’s rights.

⭐ Caregiving should always protect dignity and human rights.✓
